Program Coordinator for Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding

Religions for Peace has a vacancy for the position Program Coordinator for Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding. Conflict transformation and peacebuilding are central thematic areas in the organization’s global agenda. Working with regional and national affiliated bodies, Religions for Peace engages in conflicts on various levels through mobilizing religious communities and their leaders in their joint actions to address violent conflicts and contribute to building peace. The spiritual, moral and social potentials of religious communities are key elements in their common search for peace. The Coordinator will be given the leadership in further refining the programming of Religions for Peace's global strategy for conflict transformation and peacebuilding and be the main liaison in supporting efforts by the Religions for Peace local and regional affiliates in their peace efforts.

Specific Responsibilities include:

•    Managing all field projects related to conflict transformation and peace building, including regular reports and program updates, budget oversight and evaluation of project achievements.
•   Developing global program strategy for conflict transformation and peace building and coordinating strategy with regional bodies
•   Serving as primary liaison between International Secretariat, field project
offices and affiliated bodies for implementation of conflict and peacebuilding programs
•    Representing the organization in global policy forums, events and coalitions related to conflict and peacebuilding
•   Developing program partnerships with key stakeholders and donors
•   Developing resources and research on inter-religious approaches to conflict transformation and peace building
•   Working closely with project directors and management team members in developing project proposals and budgets.
•   Assisting the Secretary General in developing new project areas/sites in conflict transformation area.
• Carrying out other duties as occasionally assigned by the Secretary General


Qualifications:

•   Graduate degree in conflict transformation, religion, international affairs or related field
•   Ability to work with multi-cultural communities 
•   Ability to communicate and interact with religious communities on all levels 
•   Strong program experience within conflict transformation
•   Excellent experience in developing strategies and programs
•   Minimum five years relevant experience in NGO setting
•   Strong organizational skills
•   Excellent written and verbal skills
•   English fluency
•   Advanced computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
•   Intimate knowledge of the Islamic community. Arabic and French languages and international travel/living experiences preferred.

NPI Contracts Accountant

Religions for Peace has recently been awarded a major grant under the PEPFAR New Partners Initiative (NPI), administered through the US Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), to expand HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support services through its affiliated inter-religious organizations in Ethiopia and Tanzania. The Contracts Accountant will be responsible for managing all the day to day financial reporting and compliance tasks related to this NPI grant. The position will report to the Director of Finance and will be based in New York.

Specific Responsibilities include:

• Manage all aspects of finance and compliance for NPI project
• Assist preparation of annual budget, quarterly budget modifications, agency revenue and expenditure reports and PS-272 for HRSA.
• Prepare advance/reimbursement vouchers, A/R reconciliations, forecast reports and other reporting instruments to maintain financial accountability for government and private funding agencies.
• Prepare annual financial reports and FSR reports on the project.
• Prepare all supporting documentation for the project’s fiscal audits.
• Maintain ongoing labor charts to properly allocate staff time to this project.
• Maintain expense allocation table to ensure appropriate assigning of indirect costs.
• Prepare weekly cash flow analysis and monthly forecast reports to maintain control of government and private grants.
• Prepare year-end schedules and analysis for the outside auditors.

Qualifications:

To be successful in this job, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and ability required.

• Knowledge of and experience using Financial and Managerial Accounting and the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Knowledge of basic accounting concepts including profit and loss, balance sheets, and account analysis.
• In depth knowledge of Microsoft Excel and familiarity with MIP fund accounting or other not-for-profit accounting software is required.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
• Exceptional attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Three years of experience, with a minimum of one year grants accounting experience;
• Experience with US Government contracts preferred.
• Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; looks for ways to improve and promote quality.
• BA in Accounting.
