Senior religious leaders, men and women, have gathered from across Africa to form the first continental, inter-religious leaders council. The initial meeting was opened by H.E. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. President Obasanjo gave his full support to the Council and stressed that religion and politics are complementary spheres of public life and that religious leaders need to address both the spiritual and physical needs of people.
